New scientific article published in Frontiers: Viral Infections, the Microbiome, and Probiotics

Lallemand Health Solutions’ R&D Director for Microbiome Program and Bioprocess and Galenic Center, Sylvie Binda, together with IPA colleagues have cowritten a great scientific article on ‘Viral Infections, the Microbiome, and Probiotics’. This scientific article has just been published in Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, a leading specialty journal focusing on pathogenic microorganisms and their interaction with their hosts.

“Increasingly the gastrointestinal microbiome has been shown to be a key regulator of immunity and host defense mechanisms. Disruption of the homeostasis between this microbiome and the host immune system can adversely impact viral immunity. This may affect viral infection risk and recovery” summarizes Sylvie Binda. “Here we review how host-microbiota interactions shape the immune system, including early life factors, antibiotic exposure, immunosenescence, diet with probiotics and inflammatory diseases”, she completes.
