FrieslandCampina Ingredients and Lallemand Health Solutions join forces to launch best-in-class gut health concepts

FrieslandCampina Ingredients and Lallemand Health Solutions join forces to launch best-in-class gut health concepts

Partnership between the leading prebiotics and probiotics companies is in response to growing consumer demand for clinically proven solutions and positive interaction between the companies’ ingredients

FrieslandCampina Ingredients, global innovator in healthy and functional prebiotic ingredients and solutions, and Lallemand Health Solutions, specialists in the research, development, production and marketing of probiotic yeast and bacteria, have partnered to launch two brand new gut health product concepts. PRO-Digest Health Shot and PRO-Digest Bowel Support bring together best-in-class prebiotic and probiotic ingredients into single concepts that will enable companies to formulate enhanced gut health products.

With 25% of global consumers suffering from digestive health complaints, the partnership is a direct response to growing demand in effective and scientifically backed solutions for gut health. Research shows that almost half of consumers find products for improving digestive health appealing, and over two thirds recognize a link between digestive and overall health. Consumer understanding of the complimentary benefits of combined pro- and prebiotic solutions is also growing and the market is responding – in 2020, over half (54%) of probiotics also contained prebiotics in their formulation.

Both concepts contain 5 grams of FrieslandCampina Ingredients’ Biotis GOS™ prebiotic ingredient. Biotis GOS™ increases levels of Bifidobacteria in the gut of healthy adults, improving gut discomfort, constipation, and improving other GI-symptoms. Biotis GOS™ has also been shown, via the gut-brain axis, to improve anxiety levels and support overall mental well-being,v allowing formulators to create enhanced solutions which respond to growing consumer interest in solutions that improve both gut and overall health simultaneously.

The PRO-Digest Health Shot combines Biotis GOS™ with 5 billion cfu (colony forming units) per serving of Lallemand Health Solutions’ B. lactis LAFTI® B94. B. which has been shown to support a healthy microflora by feeding probiotic bacteria which reinforces gut barrier integrity and helps to relieve abdominal discomfort such as occasional constipation.

PRO-Digest Bowel Support has been specifically designed to alleviate digestive discomfort and improve the day-to-day symptoms of consumers with digestive issues. The concept contains 10 billion cfu of L. paracasei HA-196, which research shows improved quality of life in adults with IBS-like symptoms, helping with bowel frequency in occasional diarrhoea and/or constipation.

“Consumers are actively seeking gut health products that easily fit within their existing lifestyles,” says Vicky Davies, at FrieslandCampina Ingredients. “At the same time, it’s increasingly important for gut health solutions to be scientifically backed and clinically proven. That’s why we partnered with Lallemand Health Solutions – our combined formulation expertise and the expected synergy between its probiotics and our prebiotics allows brands to create stand-out products with tangible, proven benefits in an appealing and convenient format.”

“Partnering with FrieslandCampina Ingredients was a natural decision,” said Isabelle Champié at Lallemand Health Solutions. “Both our companies are committed to playing a leading role in the health of consumers across the globe and are at the forefront of science and innovation. The process of developing these concepts has been a real passion project for our R&D teams – it truly is a case of working with the most innovative ingredients to create best-in-class solutions that make a tangible difference to consumers’ lives. I’m very proud of the work we have done to bring together our collective market expertise, scientific knowledge and formulation know-how to inspire solutions that solve consumers’ biggest health issues.”

Both shots are convenient and easy-to-consume as they are, and with a clean and neutral taste, they are easy to formulate in a range of flavours.
